im sick and tired of people acting like making your bed is somehow a singular, magical act that everyone should do
just to start, there is no technical reason to make your bed. just like how modern dyes have removed the need to separate dark and light clothes in the wash (unless they're cheap), modern synthetic bedding does not need to be aired out every day. this has been the case for decades around the world, especially in the rich western countries that this obligation has been so ingrained in
in terms of mental health benefits, there is no evidence beyond correlation. historically, a made bed has been seen as a sign of discipline, but who gives a shit about that? the benefits you get from making your bed every morning come solely from it being a regular habit that gets you out of bed. any benefit you would get from making your bed in the morning you could get from making a cup of coffee or brushing your teeth, two actions that are actually productive instead of trying to emulate military discipline
so no, im not gonna make my bed, and you shouldn't either. it's pointless labor to signal virtue to nobody
